General Discussion / Research survey: Impact of Microsoft Acquisition of GitHub
« Last post by natnaree on July 03, 2018, 04:24:04 AM »
Dear contributors,

I am Natnaree Asavaseri and currently undertaking a research internship at Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan. As a part of my research, I am analyzing the impact of Microsoft's acquisition of GitHub.

I would like to conduct a survey to understand how developers perceive the Microsoft's acquisition of GitHub, especially from contributors to Linux distributions and BSD families. So please consider voicing your opinion by allowing us up to 5 minutes to complete our short survey.

We would like to remind you that participation in this survey is completely voluntary and your identity is hidden for anonymity. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I have installed Pearl OS on an HP Notebook 15-f223nr. Every time I boot up I am taken to the grub> prompt. I have googled how to manually load the kernel and boot, and though it isn't difficult it is tedious to do this each and every time. I have also tried repairing grub by running the command sudo grub-install /dev/sda, to no avail. Is this a known issue? Does anyone have a permanent fix for it? Thanks in advance for any and all help/advice.
General Discussion / No grub-GUI on Dual-boot with Windows 10
« Last post by linux_lover on June 12, 2018, 01:54:32 PM »
I am using PearlMATE 7.0 on HP-15BS579 with 8GB RAM, Intel i3 5th gen. When I tried dual booting with windows 10, installation completed successfully on GPT. I installed both Windows and Pearl in UEFI, and disabled Legacy Boot in BIOS. Upon restart, it showed grub-CLI rather than GUI. So, I tried boot-repair, SuperGrub disk and many more solutions available on Askubuntu and Ubuntuforums. But none of them worked. So I tried triple-booting with Ubuntu 16.04. Then I am able to see grub-GUI. Now each time I update to new kernel, I need to run "update-grub2" in Ubuntu to see it in grub list. Running "update-grub2" in Pearl does not work. Can anyone help me sorting this problem?
NB: Previously, when I used PearlMATE 6.0, I faced the same problem, but not in PearlMATE 5.0.

Starting with your third issue,
Open Bluetooth Manager from Menu>System>Preferences>Hardware>Bluetooth Manager. In "View" tab, select Local Services". In "Transfer>Incoming Folder" select a new folder, where you want your incoming files to be stored.
Problem #2:
Plank will not change with changing theme. You can try a different dock like "Cairo".
Problem #1:
If you want to change wallpaper, you need to change it from "Background" tab. Changing theme will not change wallpaper. As for changing menu icon, I don't think you can change it with apple icon just by some clicks.

Thanks for the information. I am a SEO.
I am using Pearl with MATE. Downloading latest image for mate is quite confusing. So, a few suggestions if you don't mind.
1. Making the download links live at home page. So that clicking on that will download desired file.
2. Instead of referring the download to source-forge by clicking on "Downloads" option, it would be interesting if you modify categorize the downloads in the download page.

NB: I can help you modifying the website if you permit.
