I already have an existing UEFI system, I want to install Pearl to a newly created partition (manually selected). After formatting and mounting it as /, I choose my ESP partition for bootloader device installation. However, in the end I get message in the subject, installation aborted and indeed I can't boot it (when I select it in rEFInd, I'm brought to GRUB 2 prompt).

I follow the guide here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1028703/the-grub-efi-amd64-signed-package-failed-to-install-target
and it works. Problem solved.

Thanks a lot. The solution worked like charm for my problem too. After booting a ubuntu live-USB, I just started from step 4.
